A couple of weeks ago I had the amazing news that I had been awarded a grant under Arts Council England’s ‘Developing Your Creative Practice’ programme. Having recently left my salaried post at Unlimited Theatre to pursue independent creative projects, this splendid opportunity could not have been more timely or welcomed at this stage in my career. The work I’ll be doing under the umbrella idea I have named The Story of WE, will explore how it is possible to make theatre and write from an authentic plurality of voices, digging deep into shared emotions, stories, fears, hopes and images, in the context of the climate and ecological dark times we are in. I’ll be working with Slung Low and their Leeds People’s Theatre and also looking at how as an artist I can fuse community imagination with individual creativity. I’ll be setting up a blog about the process of growing myself as a creative practitioner and how the WEstory unfolds, so watch this space!
